Emotive ESPN College Football Championships Promo Montage Of Teams’ Key Season Moments

ESPN debuted an emotional montage of college football’s biggest moments in a new spot promoting its telecast of the CFP National Championship.


The teaser, created in partnership with production company Stept Studios and creative agency McKinney, rolled out prior to Monday’s game between Alabama and Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship.


The creative takes an honest and somewhat introspective look at the season and what college football has meant during this most (emotionally and logistically) challenging of seasons.


The spot includes a custom orchestral interpretation of Eminem’s Grammy Award-Winning track ‘Not Afraid’ and blends footage of fan emotions and on-field action from the season.



The ad ran across the broadcaster’s own television and social channels from 4 January and came in 60-, 30- and 15-second versions.


The campaign was created for ESPN by a team at agency McKinney which was led by Chief Creative Officer Jonathan Cude, Group Creative Director Lyle Yetman and Creative Directors David Sloan and Jordan Eakin, with Art Director Jamie Steentofte, Copywriter Parth Raval, Group Client Director Ryan Gardiner, Account Supervisor Maggie Dietz, Account Manager Meghan Moloney, Strategy Director Kevin Murray, Broadcast Producer Eric Voegele, Production Coordinator Lana Jordan, Editor Nick Adcock and Business Affairs Manager Miriam Hughes.


Production was handled by Stept Studios with Director Nick J Martini, DP Charlie Owens, Head Of Production Mac Hedges, EP Laura Cushing and Line Producer Axi Mines. Post production duties were run by Carbon VFX with Senior Producer Krystle Timm, Colourist Milan Boncich and Flame Artist Matt Reilly with Sound and Music Mix by Heard NYC with Audio Engineer/Mixer Evan Mangiamele, Producer Andi Lewis and Music Director Kevin Wilson.





McKinney also developed similar spots for the Playoff selection announcement and for the College Football Playoff Semi-finals.




The agency also created ESPN’s 2019 College Football campaign.



The Crimson Tide went on to win the game and the national title.


This campaign ran in parallel with ESPN’s NFL Playoff campaign called ‘Get Read For Football Playoffs’.
