Wimbledon’s IBM Seer Sees Tennis Through Walls

Official Wimbledon sponsor IBM, which helps inform and provide the tournament organisers (as well as the players, coaches, media and fans) with scientific and technical tools generated a richer tennis experience for live fans too.

One of the more interesting recent additions to its Wimbledon campaign has been the IBM Seer. An augmented reality app, for iPhone and Android that serves up the above data combined with elements such as “Seer through the wall” technology enabling users to see live play from the show courts.

As well as streaming live tennis footage through walls from the show courts, the app includes simple elements such as the scores and schedules, maps, points of interest, food and drink outlets, to event statistics and even serve speeds.

IBM twitterers inhabit the All England Club to keep app users abreast of the latest live information, gossip and updates on everything from the shortest queues for strawberries to which and where stars and players are moving through the site as well as linking with Facebook fan sites.

Comment:

The IBM Seer app provides a free, rich, championship experience – one that is both useful and entertaining. Not only does it offer stats and information, but it connects those fans with general ground tickets and seats in outside courts with the ability to view the live action on the show courts.
