To celebrate England’s win over Sweden, all Ikea cafes are offering fish and chips for £1 for tomorrow only.
The giant Swedish retailer’s social media campaign leveraging the Russia 2018 quarter final game between Sweden and England began 24 hours ahead of kick-off with a social media food post called ‘A Game Of Two Halfs’ featuring national dishes from the two teams: Fish and Chips (England) and Meatballs (Sweden).
Then after the match and England’s win, Ikea released a further social post called ‘Hats Off to England’ which featured the retailer’s Hemnes hat and coat stand product and a congratulatory message.
This was then followed by an offer for Ikea customers in England with Fish and Chips reduced to just £1 in Ikea Cafes.

and other Ikea related brand and organisation stunts such as that by Capital North East in Gateshead.
It also continued ahead, politely, despite some England fans celebrated by invading an Ikea shop and jumping up and down on the beds and other furniture products.
Another piece of social promotion for the brand revolving around this game saw two English and Swedish soccer legends – Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham – set on another a match related, Ikea based challenge on Instagram.
This friendly betting stunt from the two icons took place between England’s former captain and Sweden’s record goalscorer ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final match.
Ibrahimovic began by offering to buy Beckham dinner anywhere in the world if the Three Lions win on Saturday, but that if Sweden won Ibrahimovic called for Beckham to treat him to a piece of furniture of his choice from his home country’s famous retailer Ikea.

Beckham replied, accepting the bet but, in the event of an England win, insisting Ibrahimovic must also attend an England game at Wembley wearing the team’s replica jersey.
Then Beckham’s former and Ibrahimovic current club LA Galaxy sealed the agreement with a post on social media.

As well as the LA Galaxy connection, the two players were once teamates at Paris St-Germain (and have also both played for Manchester United and AC Milan).
