Australian Open ‘ANZ Commemorative Coin Collection’ Launched By Champ Alcott & ANZ Tennis Hots Shots

ANZ ambassador and ‘golden slam’ wheelchair tennis champion Dylan Alcott fronted the reveal campaign for the Australian Open 2022 commemorative coin featuring Margret Molesworth (the inaugural winner of the women’s singles of the Australasian Championship in 1922) and celebrating 100 years of women’s competition.

The commemorative coins features an engraving of Molesworth engraved on the ‘heads’ side of the coin and a tennis ball alongside the ANZ logo on the ‘tails’ side.

Molesworth, who also won the tournament again in 1923, was a trailblazer and is widely recognised as one of the top 10 players of her era and after retirement became one of Australia’s first professional female tennis coaches. ANZ and Tennis Australia leveraged the coin to reflect on Molesworth’s outstanding career and her contribution to women in tennis.

ANZ unveiled a giant replica of the coin at a launch event held at Birrarung Marr (a central Melbourne Park) and saw a group of ‘ANZ Tennis Hots Shots’ kids join Alcott in unveiling this year’s coin collection and practicing the art of the coin toss. With more than 150 ANZ Tennis Hot Shots kids stepping on court as part of the ‘Australian Open 2022 Coin Crew’ and each kid was given their own limited edition coin as a memento of the experience.

2022 marks the fifth year of the ‘ANZ Commemorative Coin’ and over the last five years, the annual ‘ANZ Commemorative Coin’ has become a symbol of Australian Open celebration and in previous year’s has featured Australian tennis icons Dylan Alcott, Rod Laver, Evonne Goolagong Cawley, Kerry Melville Reid and Judy Tegart Dalton.

In previous years. ANZ’s Commemorative Coins have only been available as limited edition tennis memorabilia for ANZ Coin Crew kids and umpires during the Australian Open tournament.

This year’s limited edition Coin Collection – featuring a set of all five coins – is available for tennis fans to win through a competition on ANZ’s Facebook page launched from 17 January and was promoted across the property owner and sponsor’s social platforms.
