Ryan Reynolds Puts Wrexham Striker Paul Mullin On His Mint Mobile Family Plan

Newly promoted Wrexham AFC star striker Paul Mullin appeared in Mint Mobile’s new family calling plan campaign alongside club owner Ryan Reynolds in a campaign led by a hero spot in which the Deadpool actor turned master marketer turned soccer club owner puts the Welsh side’s attacker on his personal family calling plan.

Conceived and created by agency Maximum Effort, the campaign is spearheaded by a 30-second spot sees Reynolds explain how he can not only put his wife (actress Blake Lively) on Mint Mobile’s new $15-per month Family Plan, but can also add Mullin because, as far as the mobile telco carrier is concerned as few as two people count as ‘family’ and they  don’t have to be related.

According to Reynolds, Mullin is his ‘ride or die’ friend his “wife is just going to have to try again next season”.

The ‘Family Plan Managemint’ campaign dropped across TV and online platforms from 2 June and includes the copy line: “Anyone can be in your Mint Family Plan: Co-Chairmen. Red Dragons. Literally anyone.”

The comically charming, yet sarcastic campaign sees Mint Mobile’s new parent company T-Mobile retained Reynolds (one of Mint’s former owners) as a brand ambassador following its March acquisition.

So, despite the sale, it seems that we are all going to have to continue to live in a cross-promotional Ryan Reynolds marketing universe for a little longer – as the creative agency is also co-owned by Reynolds.

The creative continues the trend for Wrexham AFC and its players to pop up in all sorts of unlikely ad campaigns and marketing initiative since Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the Welsh market town club.

Some of the most notable of these include National League title sponsor Vanarama’s Hollywood Style Wrexham Sign and TikTok’s Front Of Shirt Sponsorship Reveal. As well as the FX ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ show promotion.
