Pepe shows his love for Umbro on 14 February as the sportswear brand released a video parodying cheesy love songs for Valentine’s Day.
Initially teased socially in the lead-up to the big day itself on both Pepe’s personal channels,

and on the brand’s platforms.

The white-suited football hard man shows his soft side as he sings a romantic serenade.
‘I knew the first time I saw you that you were special,’sings Real Madrid defender Pepe (in Portuguese) while seated at a white grand piano covered in rose petals.
‘You complete me,’ the incorrigible romantic defender continues, as the camera pans to a pair of Umbro Speciali football boots atop a velvet cushion
‘Pepe’s love for the Umbro Speciali is footballing legend and we wanted to have some fun with it this Valentine’s Day. It seems to have struck a chord with football fans, achieving more than 1m views in three days,’ comments Dave Palmer, the executive creative director of the agency behind the ad, Love.
The approach also echoes the brand’s ‘heart and soul of football tagline.
Comment
A footballing hard man known for his physically approach to the game (and for his frequent yellow and red cards), the Real Madrid and Portugal player is a good comic fit for the approach as it shows his comic, soft side.
How romantically cheesy!
One imagines he received plenty of dressing room stick for this viral, but 58,000+ views in 48 hours isn’t too bad.
After raising its profile on Valentine’s Day, the brand launched its new Medusae boot on 15 February.
