Make My Trip Leverages IPL Tie-Up Via Royal Challengers Bangalore Led ‘Life Ko Bolo > Game On’

To coincide with the start of the 2020 IPL, Make My Trip teamed up with the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a new campaign promoting its getaway daily deals on its app.

Themed around the fact that, due to the pandemic, this year’s tournament is not being played in India but in a bubble in the UAE. Starring AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and Yuzvendra Chahal and titled ‘Game On’, the campaign was conceptualised by MagicCircle and led by a hero spot which starts with de Villiers throwing a ball to Chahal, who then takes a knife and starts cutting the ball open from the seam.

Kohli asks him whether he’s developed a habit of cutting onions while sitting at home in lockdown and Chahal responds in the affirmative. Kohli then introduces Chahal to MakeMyTrip’s ‘getaway deals at safe stays’.

The film ends with the trio stating its time to say ‘life ka karo game on’ (resume life).

The campaign will continue with further commercials featuring players from the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings.

Commenting on the campaign, MakeMyTrip Chief Marketing Officer Sunil Sureshs said: “The pandemic is testing human resilience at a scale that we haven’t seen before. Through this campaign, we are touching upon the untiring spirit of human kind that is optimistic and always marching forward. The cricket season brings along with it a clear prod to Indians to reclaim the joys of life after months of anxiety and dread of the pandemic, by safely switching the game on mode. Through our campaign, ‘life ka karo game on’ we hope to remind people to take a break from their restrictive lives of last many months and march ahead by embracing the joys of life, safely.”

“Through the campaign, we also hope to inspire Indians to break the monotony with our range of safe travel and stay options. After all, taking a break from the mundane and rejuvenating is critical as we go about reclaiming our lives,” he added. “To cater to the safety demands and needs of travellers post the pandemic, the company has readapted its offerings for airlines, hotels, and holiday packages including Staycations, Daycations in conformity with MySafety, a safety assurance program that has been designed in accordance to the health and hygiene guidelines issued by WHO and local travel authorities.”
