Chevrolet & Guy Fieri Cook Up ‘Apple Pie Hot Dog’ For MLB’s Film-Inspired Field of Dreams Game

Major League Baseball (MLB) auto partner Chevrolet today announced a collaboration with award-wining chef and culinary television star Guy Fieri to create the ultimate ballpark snack for the league’s movie-inspired Field Of Dreams game in the form of the ‘Apple Pie Hot Dog’.

 

The collaboration, which was developed in tandem with agency Commonwealth//McCann and with support from Weber Shandwick, blends two quintessentially US foods into a single snack for the most ‘American heartland’ game the league has ever hosted.

 

The Apple Pie Hot Dog was inspired by a Chevy television advertisement from 1975 when the commercial’s jingle stated that ‘baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet go together in the good old USA’.

 

So, to mark the MLB’s one-off ‘Field of Dreams presented by GEICO’ game in Dyersville (Iowa) on 12 August, Chevy teamed up with chef Fieri – the self-styled ‘mayor of Flavortown’ – to lead the development and creation of the recipe.

 

The first-of-its-kind recipe features an all-beef hot dog, apple pie filling and Fieri’s signature bacon jam enveloped in flaky pie crust and topped with an apple mustard drizzle, apple pie spice, and demerara sugar.

 

The car company’s Apple Pie Hot Dog will be offered exclusively to those fans attending the MLB’s ‘Field of Dreams’ game.

 

The activation was promoted via a video-led social campaign which launched in the first week of August which was fronted by the chef, referenced the old Chevy ad and showcased the recipe for the dish.

 

 

 

“As a long-time Chevy guy, it’s awesome to be working together on this funky throwback snack for the MLB at Field of Dreams Game,” commented Fieri. “I can’t wait to see the reactions from fans as they take their first bite of the Apple Pie Hot Dog!”

 

“From the major leagues to local community teams, Chevrolet has long been a proud supporter of baseball,” added Chevrolet Marketing VP Steve Majoros. “We’re excited about the Apple Pie Hot Dog because it helps us celebrate and connect with a community of fans at the MLB at Field of Dreams Game, a uniquely American event.”

Inspired by the 1989 Universal Pictures ‘Field Of Dreams’ film, starring Kevin Costner, ‘MLB at Field of Dreams Presented by GEICO’ is being played at a temporary cornfield-constructed ballpark built next to the movie site in Dyersville (Iowa) at 7pm (ET) on Thursday, 12 August.

 

The two teams featured in the film, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox, will take on one another in an officially sanctioned league game which will be nationally televised by MLB broadcast partner FOX.
