World’s Biggest Selfie Stick Fronts Asics' NYC Marathon Sponsorship Activation

Asics has unveiled the world’s biggest selfie stick as the centrepiece of its on-course NY Marathon sponsorship activation

At 90 feet high, this fully working selfie stick (situated in Gansevoort Plaza at the heart of Manhattan’s Meat Packing District)

Towering eight stories above the ground, it opened to the public (both runners and fans) a few days prior to the race and remained so through the marathon day itself.

Visitors simply fix their own phones to a the branded, customised selfie-orb and hit a launch button to trigger the phone’s in-built video function.

This sends the handset along a high-speed track up into the sky.

When it reaches the top, the phone stops to capture a bespoke Asics message laid out on the ground below, before returning down the custom track to its owner below.

When the video recording finishes, participants have their very own, personal selfie film to share using the hashtag #GoRunIt.

The stunt is the lead strand of Asics’ 2015 marathon theme – ‘It’s a big race, go run it’.

The 2015 marathon also saw Asics work with Foot Locker in partnership on ‘Real Lives. Real Runners’ consumer-created film series initiative with MOFILM (see case study).
