Nick Kyrgios & Sweet Launch ‘King Kyrgios NFT Collection’ Celebrating Aussie Open Doubles Win

At the beginning of February, just days after Nick Kyrgios and his partner Thanasi Kokkinakis triumphed in the men’s doubles at the 2022 Australian Open, he teamed up with Sweet to launch a player-specific ‘King Kyrgios NFT Collection’ promoted as enabling fans to own a piece of that tennis history.

The collection consists of five Kyrgios’ reaction moments from the year’s tournament and it was released with a limited run of 22 digital packs priced at $US399 ($A564).

Plus, for hard core, committed fans, a one-off ‘Hyper Rare Diamond NFT’ celebrating the moment that Kyrgios and Kokkinakas claimed the doubles title is also being auctioned off as part of the player’s NFT drop at a starting price of $US9999 ($A14,138).

The Kyrgios NFT collection is available to purchase via Sweet.io and it was primarily promoted through the players own personal social channels.

“It’s been an amazing tournament full of memorable moments,” Kyrgios commented on the collection launch. “I’m all about the fans and the fan experience so this feels like another great way to connect. NFTs are the future of collectibles and I always want to be on the cutting edge and to advance our sport.”

Comment

The high profile, often controversial Aussie tennis star is the ultimate marmite athlete – fans either love him or hate – and, surely, a few of them will love him enough to invest.

Others will be more skeptical and dismiss the virtual collection as another stunt aimed at financially exploiting fans.

You can decide for yourselves.
