At Activative we aren’t usually big fans of festive promotions in November, but we are making an exception for the NBA’s new ‘Jingle Bells’ online video.
The league is sharing its holiday spirit through an ad that features a performance of Jingle Bells played by a set of NBA stars shooting baskets through five hoops affixed with sleigh bells.
The creative stars baller-musicians James Harden (Houston Rockets), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Steve Nash (L.A. Lakers), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls) and Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) shooting three-pointers at the bell hoops in a carefully scored pattern which results in a rendition of the classic Christmas tune.
It concludes with a slam dunk by Miami Heat’s LeBron James.
The video is hosted on the league’s YouTube Channel and thus far has been seen around eight million times.
It is also being promoted through the League’s other social channels – particularly via Twitter with the hashtags #JingleHoops and #NBAXmas.
The NBA YouTube channel also hosts an extra-footage, behind-the-scenes video looking at how the spot came together – which itself has racked up one million views.
The campaign promotes the league’s special edition Christmas Day uniforms – available at NBAStore.com, NBAStore.eu, and NBAStore.cn – which will be worn by 10 selected teams whom play on 25 December.

We weren’t sure whether the NBA would be able to top its hugely successful 2012 holiday spot featuring several of its star players performing ‘Carol of the Bells’ using only bouncing basketballs.
This video boasts an impressive 8.4 million YouTube views.
But this latest ad might mean they have pulled it off.
Christmas, of course, is all about ‘tradition’ and with the second annual musical spot it looks like the NBA is creating its own Xmas marketing tradition.
