Adidas Originals Unboxes Its 70-Year History Through A Sweeping Diorama Film

A new campaign for Adidas Originals, by agency Opinionated, explores and showcases the sportswear brand’s iconic moments in culture through its 70-year history.

The film, which celebrates Adidas’ 70^th birthday, sets out to mark the anniversary through an epic diorama video which guides viewers through some of its key iconic moments.

The film, which was created by agency Opinionated and production company House Special, is set in a miniature world and acts as an homage to some of the stars who wore Adidas Originals classics: these include Stan Smith, Run DMC, Muhammad Ali, Stella McCartney and Nora Vasconcellos (the brand’s first female professional skateboarder endorser).

The spot starts with the brand’s iconic three-striped shoebox which unfolds and opens to reveal a mini hoops court with tiny players wearing Adidas Superstar kicks, it then switches to a tennis court where Smith jumps through the air with his racket and then enters a club with fans watching Run DMC, before Ali graces a boxing ring, a Stella McCartney photo shoot and then Vasconcellos on her board.

The creative depicts the brand’s place not just in sport, but across all of pop culture, from fashion to entertainment.

The spot is part of a wave of content promoting the brand’s history and heritage such as ‘The Adidas Archive: Age Of Apparel’.

It is the latest work from the brand’s ongoing ‘Home of Classics’ campaign which debuted earlier this year during the NBA finals with a celebrity-filled spot shot by emerging director Mikey Alfred, who previously helmed Tyler the Creator music videos and co-produced “Mid90s,” Jonah Hill’s directorial debut.
