Sony’s eRead Twitter Feed For World Book Night

Sony sponsors a live Twitter-based virtual book club discussion (hashtag #agooderead ) on the new Margaret Atwood novel The Blind Assassin – a two hour, real time, interactive online chat at @WorldBookNight.

A Good eRead saw Margaret Atwood fans participated in a two hour, real time, online discussion on her latest book The Blind Assassin. By following @WorldBookNight and using the hashtag #agooderead fans could receive live updates, share their own views and opinions and hear those of the author.

The event is part of Sony’s sponsorship activation of World Book Night in March 2011 was spearheaded both by an in-person, physical launch event as well as the online cyber book club discussion.

Sony is the principle sponsor of World Book Night, a UK charity inspired by World Book Day which aims to encourage and promote reading and give away one million books (in the form of 25 specially selected titles).

This year’s activity, tied in with promoting its dedicated e-Reader digital reading device, saw the brand host ‘A Good eRead’ – a live virtual book club discussion on Twitter.

On the traditional, physical side Sony’s activity saw the brand back the launch event hosted by Graham Naughton and featuring literary stars such as John Le Carre and Alan Bennett. The brand had a stand at the event, offered free drinks, demonstrated its eReader which was pre-loaded with World Book Night titles.

Comment:

Social networks are ideal platforms to connect a wider body of readers and fans with events going on at physical literary festivals. As a media Twitter can connect authors to a cyber audience as well as the physical audience in real time so that live questions can be asked and answered. Online video enables the mass market to share in readings and discussions.

Thus enabling writers (and event organisers) top connect with a much wider audience.

Increasingly we are seeing literary festival sponsored events being simultaneously run in parallel digital and physical environments.
