IPC & Sponsor Samsung Team Up For Expanded Video Bloggers For Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Paralympics

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and commercial partner Samsung have teamed up to activate around PyeongChang 2018 through a team of video bloggers who will record behind-the-scenes footage at theWinter Paralympic Games.

The Paralympic blogger programme, which was first introduced at London 2012 and continued through both Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016, is one strand of Samsung’s wider, global #DoWhatYouCant campaign supporting the Paralympic Movement.

The Pyeongchang 2018 iteration marks the first time that non-athletes blog around the Games: with organisers believing that the non-competing bloggers – who comprise team officials and fans – provide a new perspective on the action.

The programme kicked-off back in November 2017 with a call-to-action campaign phase led by digital and social video pieces.

Following this initial strand, a total of of 25 bloggers from 14 different countries were chosen – 19 athletes, three team officials and three fans – and all are sharing their Games experiences using a sponsor supplied Samsung Galaxy Note8.

All blog content is uploaded to the IPC’s YouTube Channel, as well as the IPC website and the respective bloggers’ own personal social media accounts.

The content began with each blogger recording an introductory spot: such as these samples from Mexican Alpine skier Arly Velasquez (who made his Paralympic debut at Vancouver 2010),

Team Canada Erin Latimer,

Austrian Para-Alpine skier Markus Salcher

and Finish para Nordic skier Rudolf Klemetti,

Before the athletes then go on to use video to share various aspects fo the Paralympic experience.

“We’re excited to once again give millions of viewers around the world the chance to get a closer look at the Paralympics through the eyes of the Samsung Paralympic bloggers,” said IPC communications and media director Craig Spence added:

“This time in Pyeongchang, team officials and fans will also join the team to show the world a unique perspective of life inside a Paralympic Games.”
