UEFA’s ‘Outraged’ Feature Length Documentary Tackles Discrimination In Football

The end of December saw UEFA release a new feature film called ‘Outraged’ to tackle discrimination in football.

The film, which was created in a partnership with production agency Shoot The Company, features several soccer super stars including Paul Pogba, Megan Rapinoe, Pernille Harder, Ruud Gullit, Didier Deschamps and Jose Mourinho.

The initiative explores attitudes to racism, homophobia, sexism and refugee inclusion across the football landscape and asks what more can be done to eliminate all forms of hatred from the game?

It sees many of the biggest names in football – past and present – discuss their own experiences of the discrimination which sadly continues to blight the world’s most popular sport.

The original documentary was promoted with a late December trailer across its social channels before the full feature was digitally distributed on UEFA.tv.

The film will be broadcast globally in January 2021 by UEFA’s partner broadcasters as part of UEFA’s umbrella programme to change perceptions and realities in football.

Tom Hillier, founder at Shoot the Company said: “The global reach and power of football is unarguable, and we share the vision of both UEFA’s and the contributors in ‘Outraged’, that the game has the potential to affect real change. It’s been a pleasure for Shoot the Company to be the lead production company for UEFA and help share such an important message globally.

This rights owner/governing body created piece of film content took two years to make.

UEFA has worked with Shoot the Company – an award-winning UK based independent film maker with a specialism in football – for the last five years on various projects which typically blend a shared passion for football with an understanding of the messages and communication techniques which will lead to long-term changes within the game.

Having the biggest names from biggest sport come together to fight discrimination is inspiration for us all to help to create a more tolerant world.”
