Messi Fronts Launch Trailer As Konami Celebrates 25-Year Edition Of Pro Evolution Soccer

Barcelona and Argentina striker Leo Messi is the protagonist of the trailer for PES 2021 as games maker Konami launches a campaign to promote the football video game’s 25th anniversary.

The campaign, created in harness with agency Fan Content, is led by a trailer which focuses on honouring Messi’s golden career in a parallel analogy with the evolution of PES over the years.

The Japanese company and its creative agency offer up a campaign that links past, present and future under the philosophy of ‘gradual improvement’.

The three-minute audio-visual trailer features images of Messi with a dramatic dark background which is overlaid with chronological screenshots of the player and the video game’s evolution and improvement over time. Beginning in 1995 in Rosario (Argentina) and running up to the present day, the spot charts Messi’s rise before branching out to feature other teams and stars such as Ronaldo, Rashford and a line-up of football legends from the last 25 years.

Thus, as Messi’s skills improve, so do the playability and graphic design of PES.

The campaign was created for Konami Client Manager Adam Bhatti by a team at agency Fan Content which included Project Director Alex Bretón and Creative Directors Miguel Puime and Carles Martínez.

The production company was Mamma Team with Director César Pesquera, Executive Producer Claudia Mayer, Post-production Coordinator Julien Betoret with Glassworks.

The sound studio was Idea Sonora with music by Trafalgar 13.

Outcome:

According to Konami, this is “the most successful and well-received trailer in PES history”.

In the first 24 hours since it was posted on 15 September it notched up 974k views on the brand’s own YouTube channel and had already earned 11,000 more hours of viewing than the previous year’s trailer.
