Man Utd, Adidas & The Stone Roses Team Up For ‘Roses Are Red’ Manc Capsule Collection

Premier League football giants Manchester United FC and apparel partner Adidas tamed up with iconic Manc scene 90s band The Stone Roses to design a Manchester fashion focused capsule collection called ‘Roses Are Red’.

The fashion line is inspired by the ‘Madchester’ music era with inferences and ideas linked to the band’s self-titled album and the mood and creativity of city during the 1990s. Indeed, the garments are directly inspired by guitarist John Squire’s artwork on The Stone Roses’ debut album.

The jerseys have the red, white and blue Adidas stripes on the sleeves and ‘The Stone Roses’ written inside the collar in gold lettering. The Manchester United crest is creatively adapted, featuring the words ‘This is the One’ and two lemon slices replacing footballs on either side.

To mark the launch, current players from the men’s and the women’s teams took part in a photoshoot that pays homage to legendary portraits of The Stone Roses.

A short film, ‘Roses are Red,’ features players, legends and fans showcasing the collection and highlighting what the song ‘This Is the One’ means to them, with appearances by Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Liam Fray.

James Holroyd, chief commercial development officer at Manchester United, added: “This collection recognizes our joint histories in a way that connects with both older fans and the new generation of supporters.”

Inigo Turner, design director at Adidas, expressed his excitement about the collection, stating: “The Stone Roses’ music is the soundtrack for fans who remember the famous class of 92. This collection celebrates the beautiful fusion of football and musical culture that both the team and the band represented.”

We aren’t qualified to comment on the fashion, but we do love the atmosphere generated at Old Trafford when ‘This Is The One’ is the last song belted out in the stadium ahead of kick off – a tradition apparently introduced by former right back and current uber analyst Gary Neville.

City may have Oasis, but proper Mancunian indie music fans know that it is Utd who hold the cool ‘band-fan’ crown with The Stone Roses being long-time Reds fans.
