Scottish football giant Celtic FC’s Christmas ad, ‘Wish Upon a Celtic Star’, stars national team captain Scott Brown and will bring a tear to the eye of even the most hardened Ranger FC fan.
The narrative sees the uncompromising, tough-tackling central midfielder Brown play the part of a young Hoops fan’s imaginary best friend.
The Scotland skipper helps the child in everyday activities (such as ‘homework’ and ‘colouring in’), but disappears whenever his mother enters the room.
In fact, his mother shakes her head in disbelief at her son who she believes is talking to himself and to cheer up the little lad she buys him a Celtic shirt online with Brown’s name and number on the back.
Mum answers the door to another young boy who also has an imaginary friend in the form of fellow Celtic star Gary Mackay Steven. Brown and Steven shake hands, but the mother can see neither of them.
There’s even time for a kick-about with team-mates Tom Rogic and James Forrest before a bedtime story – which turns out to be Brown’s autobiography ‘The Scotsman’.
The festive scene reaches its seasonal climax when the young supporters sweeps downstairs on Christmas morning to open his gift and, hey presto, his Celtic shirt has been magically signed by the man himself with the tagline ‘Keep Believing’ signed on the front:

It comes accompanied by a supporting ‘behind-the-scenes’ spot too.

A charming Christmas spot, albeit one that overtly aims to drive club commercial sales, Brown himself even took to social media to amplify the ad and jokingly suggest that perhaps he deserves an Oscar for his acting performance.
He might have been joking, but some of us at Activative fell for the spot.
