Adidas & Parley Launch Anna Bader ‘Cliff Dive’ Film To Highlight Ocean Plastic Pollution

German cliff diver Anna Bader stars in an epic, new short film from the Adidas/Parley collaboration to highlight plastic pollution in the ocean.

Created in collaboration with the environmental group Parley for the Oceans, this dramatic cliff dive gives Adidas and Anna Bader the opportunity to highlight the plight of plastic pollution in the oceans

The project revolves around a three minute branded content piece, directed by Matthias Hoene via Miniac Films, which follows Bader as she readies herself to dive from Kahekili’s Leap (on the south shore of Hawaii).

As she prepares for the terrifying-looking dive, Bader reflects on the pollution ruining the world’s oceans – from the busiest human populated ports to some of the most remote places on the planet.

The film also chronicles the intense training needed for just a four-second leap.

Bader’s narration is cut with sweeping shots of the cliffs and the surrounding nature.

The two day shoot saw Hoene use multiple techniques to dramatize the dive using hardware including Phantom high speed cameras, as well as underwater and drone cameras.

As well as the full length spot

There is also a 1-minute 30-second cut down version.

Hoene’s telling of Anna’s story is just one part of Adidas x Parley initiative to create the first high-performance products made from waste that has been intercepted from beaches and coastal communities.

“Working with Anna was incredible,” says Matthias Hoene. “She traveled from a small town in Germany to Hawaii – a grueling 28-hours – and went straight into the shoot with enthusiasm.”

“The kind of jumps Anna did, having to clear three meters of deadly rock with a triple somersault, or needing to hit really specific points in the water to avoid hitting the ground, definitely made my heart miss a beat a few times,” he explains. “It’s humbling to work with athletes of her caliber. It makes me want to work harder at everything I do.”

The film was created by client adidas x Parley by production company Miniac Films. The executive producer was Stephen Roesler, the producer was Sarah Key and the director was Matthias Hoene.

Editing was handled by Niles Howard, the colourist was Kaitlyn Battistelli, the coour producer was Sara Gbadamosi, while music was produced by Vaudeville and the original score was by Christopher Carmichael.

Comment:

This dramatic, fascinating and at time, frightening spot is gorgeously filmed and the Activative team was riveted.

It adds a further powerful piece to the ongoing Adidas/Parley project which has recently been fronted by the global, participatory ‘Run For The Oceans’ initiative (see case study).
