In addition to the ongoing, traditional advertising thread of MasterCard’s #SentirseCampeón (Feel Like A Champion) Copa America Chile 2015 activation – such as its latest Javier Maschereno fronted TV spot – the tournament’s official car and preferred method of payment partner has also launched its in-stadium digital payment and shopping app in host nation Chile’s soccer stadiums.
The Qkr! App now enables Latin America’s football fans to buy food, drinks and tournament merchandise from their stadium seats – avoiding standing in queues and missing the game.
Qkr!, which has also rolled out in some other markets such as the Australia, Canada and the USA, launched in early June at the National, Estadio Monumental David Arellano and La Portada stadiums.
Available for Android and iOS devices, “Qkr! Aims to offer live supporters a fast, secure, first-class in-stadium purchasing experience that enables fans who have downloaded the free app to order food and gifts efficiently and pay seamlessly by phone or tablet simply by touching their screens.
All without missing any of the 2015 Copa América action or the goals.
Fans simply need to enter basic registration data once and then can purchase products through the official food provider (Vive Snack Stadium) or the official merchandise partner.
‘This is a cutting-edge payment option that we are proud to offer. The app is available for download and may be used to order food at all matches taking place at the National, Estadio Monumental David Arellano and La Portada stadiums effective 15 June,’ explains MasterCard Chile’s general manager Patricio Sandoval.

It was back in November that MasterCard was officially unveiled by the South American Football Federation as a Chile 2015 tournament sponsors – marking 10 consecutive year that the company has supported the continent’s biggest soccer tournament.
‘The renewed sponsorship reinforces MasterCard’s traditional commitment to international football and Latin American football,’ commented MasterCard Latin America President Gilberto Caldart when the deal was signed.
‘The passion of Latin American in football is recognized worldwide. And the sponsorship of the America’s Cup allows us to promote moments and surprises that are priceless throughout the region.’
MasterCard’s package at Chile 2015 – which is the 44th time the world’s oldest ongoing international tournament has been staged – sees the company have exclusivity in the payment services category, global rights to use the name and brand of the tournament, a set of sponsor tickets to give away, exclusive rights over the ‘Tour of the Copa America Cup’ and the opportunity to offer customers and fans a set of unique tournament experiences.
Thus far MasterCard’s activations stretch from its work as the present partnership of the tournament draw in late November 2014,
to its trophy tour campaign (see case study), plus its sponsorship of the tournament’s ‘Man Of The Match’ competition, as well as running a set of ad-based customer product promotions.
